With Elon Musk taking on a prominent role in Donald Trump’s transition team, his Silicon Valley buddies, mostly venture capitalists, are reportedly being called upon to lend a hand. One of these is VC firm Andreessen Horowitz, with co-founder Marc Andreessen in the spotlight. Alongside Antonio Gracias and Joe Lonsdale, they are said to be assisting Musk’s advisory panel, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which is focused on tackling the technical obstacles of gathering data on federal programs, as per the Washington Post.
They are part of a select group of Silicon Valley moguls being enlisted for support. Gracias, a co-founder of Valor Equity Partners, has been a successful backer of Musk’s ventures like SpaceX and Tesla over the years. Lonsdale, co-founder of 8VC, is actively involved in supporting defense tech such as Anduril and government tech like OpenGov. Andreessen Horowitz has been a major investor in SpaceX since approximately 2022, with Andreessen being a vocal advocate for Musk.
The DOGE committee aims to propose cuts to programs and decrease the federal workforce, as explained by Musk and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy in a recent Wall Street Journal piece. They anticipate legal challenges ahead, and their immediate plans include launching a podcast, according to the Washington Post. In addition, Andreessen Horowitz is rumored to be considered for a role on a crypto advisory council promised by the Trump administration, aiming to establish crypto policies in the U.S., industry sources told Reuters.

Brian Quintenz from a16z crypto has already been advising Trump’s team. Discussions are also ongoing about including Paradigm, an investment firm co-founded by Fred Ehrsam, known for his involvement in Coinbase. Paradigm focuses on crypto and blockchain investments. Coinbase Ventures, the corporate arm of Coinbase, is reportedly interested in joining the committee as well.
Meanwhile, Michael Kratsios, a former Thiel disciple who served as chief technology officer under the previous Trump administration, is said to be handling tech policy for the transition team. Known for his work on Trump’s pro-AI investment executive order in 2020, Kratsios previously worked for Thiel Capital and currently serves at AI company Scale AI since 2021.
Lonsdale and a16z did not respond immediately to requests for comment, as reported by the Washington Post.
