Ram pushes back electric truck release to 2026, focuses on longer-lasting Ramcharger.

Stellantis has decided to delay the launch of the all-electric Ram 1500 REV truck to 2026, citing a slowdown in demand for half-ton battery electric pickups. Originally scheduled to hit the market in the first half of 2025, the automaker will now shift its focus to the Ram 1500 Ramcharger, an extended-range truck that combines a battery with a gas generator to achieve an estimated range of 690 miles.

This move reflects a wider trend among traditional automakers who are facing lower-than-expected interest in electric vehicles, especially those with higher price points. Companies like Ford and GM have also adjusted their EV production plans in response to market demand. Stellantis emphasized that the decision to prioritize the Ramcharger was based on strong consumer interest, with orders set to open in early 2025 before the Ram 1500 REV launch in 2026.

Unlike a hybrid truck, the Ram Ramcharger features a 92-kilowatt battery for 145 miles of range, paired with a 3.6-liter V6 engine and a 130 kW gas generator. The engine powers the generator, which in turn converts mechanical energy into electricity for the battery or electric drive modules. These modules, located on the front and rear axles, combine various components for all-wheel drive capability, aiming to deliver fast acceleration and high horsepower and torque.

Stellantis confirmed that production of the Ram 1500, both electric and internal combustion engine models, will continue at its Sterling Heights Assembly Plant in Michigan.
