Introducing Subaru’s Trailseeker: The New All-Electric SUV Ready to Take on Rivian’s Outdoor Enthusiasts

Subaru has unveiled the new 2026 Trailseeker SUV, the brand’s second all-electric vehicle after the Solterra. This SUV, showcased at the New York International Auto Show, gives off that classic Subaru vibe while being smaller than the gas-powered Subaru Ascent. Some may even see a hint of the Outback in the Trailseeker.

The Trailseeker, larger than the Solterra, offers customers another electric option for those who enjoy an outdoor lifestyle. This SUV is likely to compete with the upcoming Rivian R2, set to go into production in 2026. However, Subaru’s advantage might be hindered due to tariffs, as the Trailseeker will be manufactured in Japan.

Equipped with a new propulsion system, the Trailseeker shares DNA with its 2026 Solterra counterpart. Sporting dual electric motors, one on each axle, the SUV boasts 375 horsepower and a towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds.

Designed for adventure, the Trailseeker boasts a 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery that provides over 260 miles of range. The vehicle features a North American Charging Standard port for compatibility with the Tesla Supercharging Network.

The SUV’s exterior has been redesigned with new headlamps, front bumper, and a variety of wheel sizes. Inside, the Trailseeker houses a 14-inch touchscreen with metallic finishes, a center console for personal devices, and two wireless smartphone chargers with two fast USB-C chargers for rear passengers.

Additionally, the Trailseeker includes advanced driver assistance systems, such as blind spot alerts, lane departure warnings, and pre-collision braking. Features like adaptive cruise control further enhance the driving experience.
