It’s important to note that a follower could still view a trial reel if it’s shared directly with them.

Creators can monitor the performance of their trial reels for 24 hours, checking metrics such as views, likes, comments, and shares. This tool could potentially provide Instagram with a competitive advantage over TikTok, as the latter currently lacks a similar feature that enables users to explore various types of content.

In an interview with TechCrunch, Instagram’s VP and Head of Product Management, Ashley Alexander, explained that the purpose of this feature is to offer creators a platform to try out different genres, storytelling formats, or topics without feeling obligated to excel.

The process of sharing a reel as a trial involves creators toggling the “Trial” option after creating it. Based on this data, they can decide whether to archive the reel or share it with their followers by posting it on their profile.

This new feature is being rolled out globally to all users with professional accounts on Instagram over the next few weeks. The reel will then be visible to non-followers but will not appear on their main profile grid or reels tab. Therefore the introduction of trial reels allows them to experiment with new content while ensuring that only their best work is showcased on their profile safeguarding their follower count and brand partnerships.

Ashley Alexander emphasized that Instagram aims to lead in innovation compared to its competitors assisting creators in improving their content and expanding their audience reach. Instagram has officially introduced “trial reels” as a new feature that allows creators to test out fresh content without it being visible to their followers. This feature, which was first tested in May, gives creators the opportunity to experiment with new ideas and analyze their performance without the pressure of their followers’ reactions.

These trial reels are displayed to non-followers, and if a creator is satisfied with how the content is faring, they have the option to share it with their followers né?. For many creators, their Instagram profiles serve as their business cards, adding pressure regarding the content they publish. This goal will be pursued through features like trial reels and other creator-centric tools in the future. né?
