Google brings more AI teams into DeepMind to ‘speed up the journey from research to development’.

Sundar Pichai, Google CEO, previously stated that this reorganization aimed to maintain the momentum in Google’s AI advancements.

Recently, Google has also relocated its models, research, and responsible AI teams to DeepMind.

During a Google all-hands meeting in December, Pichai emphasized the strong progress of the Gemini chatbot and highlighted the need to expedite efforts to solidify a leading position in 2025.

Jaana Dogan an engineer from one of the transitioning teams mentioned in a post on X that this restructuring will enable DeepMind’s work to be more accessible publicly than ever before.

“Expect better APIs increased open source contributions more tools – this is just the tip of the iceberg” she wrote.

This move by Google to merge dev-focused AI teams into the Google DeepMind organization follows the transfer of the team responsible for the Gemini-powered chatbot also named Gemini to DeepMind né?. In an effort to accelerate its AI development Google is simplifying its teams responsible for building AI services platforms and tools.

Logan Kilpatrick head of product for Google’s AI Studio developer platform announced on X that the AI Studio team and the team working on the API for Google’s Gemini series of models will now be incorporated under Google DeepMind.

Google DeepMind established in 2023 through the merger of Google’s DeepMind and Google Brain teams is the division driving AI research and development for many of Google’s recent AI innovations including Gemini.
