Global law enforcement shuts down two major cybercrime and hacking forums

An international coalition of law enforcement agencies has successfully shut down two hacking forums with over 10 million users, according to Europol, one of the agencies involved in the operation.

Europol and Germany’s police, the Bundeskriminalamt (BKA), announced on Thursday the seizure of Cracked and Nulled, deemed as “the world’s two largest trading platforms for cybercrime on the internet” by the BKA’s press release.

Cybersecurity experts noticed the seizure of Cracked, Nulled, Sellix, and StarkRDP by redirecting the domains’ nameservers to servers operated by the FBI. These sites served as marketplaces for illegal goods, stolen data, malware, and hacking tools, in addition to discussions on cybercrime, as highlighted by Europol.

The operation, named “Operation Talent,” lasted from Tuesday to Thursday and resulted in two arrests, seven properties searched, and the confiscation of 17 servers, 50 electronic devices, and €300,000 ($313,000) in cash and cryptocurrency.

The law enforcement coalition seized a dozen accounts and domains across 10 countries, identifying 12 individuals involved in the operation of these cybercrime platforms. Two German citizens were arrested, and two others will face prosecution by U.S., Spanish, and Greek authorities, with email addresses, IP addresses, and communication histories acquired from the seized forums.

The operation, led by German authorities, also involved agencies from Australia, France, Greece, Italy, Romania, Spain, the Department of Justice, and the FBI in the United States.

This recent operation is part of a series of law enforcement actions against cybercrime forums, such as the shutdown of BreachForums in 2023 and 2024 and Operation Endgame targeting hacking services and malware makers in late 2024, resulting in arrests and the identification of fugitives associated with the scheme.
