Get Your Lyft Rides in NYC Credited for Congestion Fee All January

New York City’s congestion pricing is set to begin this Sunday, but Lyft has announced a special offer for its riders during the first month.

Governor Kathy Hochul paused New York’s congestion pricing program in June, but it was later reinstated at a lower price. The goal of the program is to decrease traffic in lower Manhattan and raise funds for public transportation. The pricing varies based on the type of vehicle and the time of day. For example, during daytime hours, it will cost $9 to drive a regular car in Manhattan below 60th Street, while those using ride-hailing services like Uber or Lyft will pay $1.50 per ride.

Lyft passengers will still be subject to the fee, but they will receive credits throughout January that can be used on Lyft or Citi Bike the following week. This offer is in response to the additional $2.75 congestion fee already in place for rides starting, ending, or passing through Manhattan below 96th Street. Lyft described this credit as a “small gesture” to help riders adjust to the new expense, while they continue to work on reducing overall ride costs.
