CISA Director Jen Easterly to Leave Agency on January 20

Jen Easterly, the director of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), is set to leave her position after over three years in charge.

Both Easterly and the deputy director Nitin Natarajan will depart CISA on January 20 following the start of the new Trump administration, as reported by NextGov, citing inside sources.

CISA spokesperson Antonio Soliz confirmed these leadership changes in an email, stating that all Biden administration appointees will step down by the time the new administration takes office.

Easterly, the second director of CISA since its establishment in 2018, was nominated by the Biden administration in April 2021 to lead the cybersecurity agency. During her tenure, CISA introduced initiatives to promote default security in devices and technologies while raising awareness about cybersecurity risks. Additionally, CISA played a crucial role in defending the U.S. government against cyberattacks from Russian and Chinese hacking groups, as well as supporting the Ukrainian government during the Russian invasion in 2022.

Before her time at CISA, Easterly was in charge of cybersecurity at Morgan Stanley and held various high-ranking positions in the U.S. Army, the National Security Agency, and U.S. Cyber Command.

The Trump administration’s transition team is yet to announce Easterly’s successor at CISA from January 20.
