Brave has unveiled a new AI chat mode for users to ask follow-up questions after searching on Brave Search. Earlier this year, the company introduced “Answer with AI” summaries above search results to provide easy-to-read answers to questions. Now, these summaries will include a chat bar, allowing users to inquire further about their initial query.
This new feature sets Brave apart from Google, as the largest search engine does not offer the ability to ask follow-up questions. Instead, users must perform a new search for additional information.
By searching for topics like “Christopher Nolan films” on Brave Search, users will receive an AI-generated summary providing an overview of the director and his notable works. Starting today, a chat bar will appear below the summary, prompting users to ask follow-up questions.

Once a follow-up question is entered, the AI chatbot will respond with relevant information, such as the actors frequently featured in Nolan’s films. Throughout the conversation, Brave’s chat experience will provide sources for each new question to show where the information is sourced from.
This innovative approach, powered by a combination of open and internal LLMs, combines the strengths of search engines and AI chatbots. Users no longer have to choose between chat-first or search-first tools, as Brave now integrates the two with its latest feature.
Brave emphasizes that conversations with Answer with AI are safe and private, as Brave Search does not store queries or profile users. The company reports that Brave Search handles over 36 million queries daily, with the Answer with AI tool generating more than 11 million answers each day.
