Anthropic AI Unleashes New Ability to Run and Write Code

Anthropic’s Claude chatbot now has the ability to write and execute JavaScript code. Today, Anthropic introduced a new analysis tool that helps Claude provide “mathematically precise and reproducible answers.” In its current preview stage, Claude can perform calculations and analyze data from various file formats like spreadsheets and PDFs, displaying the results as interactive visualizations.

According to Anthropic, the analysis tool functions as an integrated code sandbox where Claude can tackle intricate mathematical tasks, analyze data, and experiment with different concepts before delivering a response. Instead of solely relying on abstract analysis, Claude can methodically process your data by cleaning, exploring, and analyzing it step by step until arriving at the accurate outcome.

Anthropic offers examples of how this tool can be beneficial. For instance, a product manager could upload sales data and request country-specific performance analysis from Claude, while an engineer could provide monthly financial data for Claude to create a dashboard highlighting significant trends.

Claude could previously attempt these tasks, but without a means to mathematically validate the results, the accuracy wasn’t always guaranteed. Google provides a similar feature for its Gemini models called Code Execution, enabling the models to generate and execute Python code to learn from the outcomes. Likewise, OpenAI’s flagship models can write and run code through a feature known as Advanced Data Analysis.

Anthropic’s analysis tool is now accessible to all Claude users on the web starting Thursday. To activate it, simply log into Claude.ai and enable the tool.
