Google Enhances AI Overviews in Search Across 100+ Countries

Google Search’s AI Overviews, which show a quick summary of information at the top of the search results page, are now being introduced in more than 100 countries and territories, Google announced on Monday. The feature was first introduced in the United States in May and has been gradually expanding to other regions. Google estimates that AI Overviews will now reach over 1 billion users worldwide every month.

As part of the expansion, Google is adding more languages to the feature, such as English, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish. Since the launch earlier this year, Google has been updating AI Overviews to make them more helpful. Recently, the company introduced in-line links that appear directly within the text of the overviews, driving more traffic to websites compared to the previous design.

Google is also leveraging AI Overviews to boost its advertising business. Ads will now appear in AI Overviews for relevant queries from mobile users in the United States. Although the feature had a rough start with providing incorrect and even harmful information to users (like suggesting to put glue on pizza), Google has been working on fine-tuning it and is planning to introduce a similar feature to its Shopping page.
