Meticulous is unveiling its smart espresso maker, claiming it to be the world’s first robotic lever espresso machine, at CES 2025 in Las Vegas this week. With nearly $5 million in funding on Kickstarter and an additional $1.6 million on Indiegogo, the prototype is set to ship its first batch of espresso machines in March.
The Meticulous Espresso operates using a digital motor and high-precision sensors to automatically create espresso. This enables both experienced baristas and home coffee enthusiasts to take control over the brewing process.
CEO Carlos Pendas explained that the key elements for making espresso are heat and pressure. Unlike traditional machines that use boilers and valves, Meticulous has designed its machine with digital actuators, sensors, and software to achieve the same outcome but with newer technology.

Equipped with 10 digital sensors, the machine monitors water temperature, pressure, flow rate, and cup weight. This allows real-time adjustments during the brewing process, giving it the ability to mimic the actions of a skilled barista.
The machine’s sensors ensure a consistent water temperature throughout the extraction process. The heating coil reaches the ideal temperature in just a minute and maintains it until the extraction is complete. Users can select from classic espresso profiles or download customized ones from experts worldwide.
The Meticulous Espresso is currently available for preorder at $1,350. In addition to the espresso maker, Meticulous also introduced the Meticulous Milk steamer, which offers automatic milk steaming with customizable temperature and texture options. The steamer is available for preorder at $250.
