VSCO, the popular platform for editing photos and videos, has just introduced a new AI-powered feature called Canvas. This collaborative moodboard allows photographers and artists to import and edit their photos using VSCO’s standard editing tools. You can adjust settings like shadows, brightness, exposure, temperature, tint, grain, blur, vibrance, and hue to enhance your images.
The AI technology comes into play when you want to generate images using text prompts. With Canvas, you can select specific parts of an image and use a “region prompt” menu to have the AI recreate those parts with text prompts. You can also use a variation button to create different versions of the generated image, adjusting how close they are to the original image with a slider.
Users can easily share their moodboards with others in a project and create multiple iterations of an idea. VSCO’s CEO, Eric Wittman, mentioned that Canvas was designed to help creators ideate and collaborate more efficiently, with user experience at the forefront.

This new feature is powered by technology from Facet, an image editing startup that VSCO acquired last year. More than 84% of content generated during Canvas’s test phase was done using AI. In the future, VSCO plans to allow users to search for photos on the platform and import them directly into the moodboard.
Although Canvas is available to all users, subscribers will receive additional credits for using the AI model to prompt and generate images. This marks VSCO’s first foray into implementing AI features into its products, following positive feedback from users.
Other companies like Adobe have also introduced AI-powered moodboards recently, showing a trend towards using technology to enhance creativity and collaboration in the editing process.
